How Is Our Government Even Afloat As a World Power When It Is in Debt for Over $10 Trillion?

I don’t know much about the debt, but know that is refers both to intra and inter governmental debt. If the debt keeps rising, and our taxes and GDP do not pay off any debt (in fact, I guess entitlement spending obviously adds to the debt), and the debt limit keeps being pushed back further and further, how will our country be able to remain powerful, or even dodge [more] war? I just don’t know how we can even be functioning.

External Debt: What Is the Composition of America’s External Debt and to Whom Is It Owed?

I know the US external debt is around 12 trillion, but what is the composition of the said debt? Treasury securities? What?

And following, does anyone have figures for who owns this outstanding debt? I have heard for example that China owns anything from 400 Billion to over 1 trillion. Does anyone have certain figures of these?

I won’t be able to look at the answers until I’m home from work, but I look forward to seeing how YA users reckon we could reduce the inhabitant debt. It’s well over $12 trillion and still climbing rapidly. It’s not a problem that will go away if we just ignore it, and the interest on that debt is very substantial. The issue of the inhabitant debt must be addressed, the sooner the better.
