Is It Discriminatory to Deny a Loan to Someone for Not Speaking Perfect English, Even if You Can Understand It?

loan

My friend’s father was denied a loan from Learn Bank because he does not speak English perfectly. They said that they cannot extend loans to individuals who do not know English, even after it was made known that he can read it.

  1. In the US a business has a right to refuse service to anyone they point out.

  2. I would not reckon so. He could shortly claim he did not know the terms of the loan and could start a lawsuit. Would be more distress than it was worth.

  3. what’s incorrect with that Try another bank, it’s America!!

  4. no .. This is America and in order to get citizenship you must be able to speak and read english. and therefore, if you are not a citizen you should never be given a loan for any reason.

  5. I would say that his ability to speak english has nothing to do with his credit rating.

  6. Yes, it is discriminatory because America does not have an “authoritative” language.

  7. Yes. That is blatant discrimination.
The bona fide qualifications for a loan include the ability to repay, but not the ability to speak English.

  8. Speak English in America, or else go somewhere that speaks your language.
