How Much Debt Would Disqualify You from Getting a Security Clearance in the Army?

debt

Is there an exact amount of debt or is it if you have any kind of bills in collections no matter the amount? I have a couple of bills in collections that equal to about one thousand dollars. Would that disqualify me from getting a secret security clearance from the army? If anyone knows the amount I would be grateful for the help.

  1. Yes, bills in collections will DQ you. There’s no fixed amount that they look at. They look at your credit history and current situation.

  2. Dude good luck with that sh*t, getting a security clearance is a pain in the ***. The DOD shows up and runs a one year background check on you and calls all your teachers you have ever had and talks to all your neighbors and friends and you have to take a polygraph and basically its like the boy scouts club.

If you are not a perfect person, (If you have done any drugs, cheated on your wife, have family in countries where terror is known to have been an issue, or served in the peace corps) Amongst many things, forget about it.
